I feel like it’s none of my business, but I am so struck by Jerry Hadley’s life. I just discovered him last week, but it turns out I saw him in Boheme the night the Reagans were there. He seemed to me (an amateur) to have the most attractive and vibrant tenor voice I’ve ever heard. What happened? Especially, why was he prevented from Bernstein’s recording of West Side Story (because I distinctly remember disappointment at Jose C). I find so many operatic voices unnerving, yet his is not only welcoming - he embraced a natural stage presence.

Awesome job. Chiaroscuro is seldom heard in this era so it is infinitely welcome to hear the clear production balanced with the darkness of a properly anchored and coordinated chest participation. The influence of the late great Jerry Hadley is unmistakably heard in Mr. Cheney's singing.
